Here are the NOAA snow depth maps for 7 January of 2010, 2011, and 2012. Note that in 2010, the mmidwestern snowcover extended as far south as Oklahoma. In 2011, it only dipped as far as northern Iowa, and this year there is almost no midwestern snow cover below the Canadian border.
Giselle Loren (also known as Giselle Achecar) was the voice of Buffy Summers in the 2002 pilot for the animated Buffy series that never got off the ground. She is now the creator of ECO-RICO, an eco-lifestyle cooking show, and a website that promotes green products.
On twitter it is @EcoRicoTV.
Here’s part of how she describes her inspiration for the creation of ECO-RICO:
The “Divine Download” arrived one night in a car with a dear friend. Naturally, we were blasting salsa, shimmying in our seats. ECO-RICO! We both screamed. The energy-saving CFL in my brain illuminated. Eco-edutainment serving people and planet with passion. The beginning of a movement. The manifestation of everything I had prepared for during my dark days. The marriage of passion and purpose!
Senators rarely say intelligent and useful things, but this speech on climate change, by Senator Whitehouse of Rhode Island, distills the argument for immediate action on climate change very well. It’s 23 minutes long but take the time to listen to this. I was going to write something on the subject, but this is better than anything I could come up with.
I am an Obama supporter. But I agree with Mr. McKibben on the necessity to stop the pipeline and the necessity to address climate change with all possible swiftness. So I am posting his speech announcing the November protest in Washington here.
