Lucy Staniland (right) and Nikola McMurtry are NIXIE IN THE POND - new UK folk duo

I don’t know much about NIXIE IN THE POND. The folk duo is made up of Lucy Staniland, and Nikola McMurtry, who are both on Twitter, though McMurtry doesn’t tweet much. Their Facebook Page biography goes this way:

“Started out as friends who just happened to write our own material, then one night we began jamming together and then BOOM. We now out stay our welcome in each others pockets all the time. – We love all kinds of music, but we’ve a particular crush on folk, so we seem to be heading down the ‘folky’ path with a bit of our own stamp.”

I had to listen to them a couple of times before I decided they were good, but they are, and I suspect they’ll be around a while.

Nixie in the Pond is a Germanic Folk tale popularized by the Brothers Grimm. A nixie is a water spirit.

Those who are somewhat closer to these events than I am should seriously consider attending the following performances:

  • Kasey Chambers – Alice Springs, Australia. On 18 May, Kasey Chambers will be performing music from her recently released album STORYBOOK. (Distance from Pixel 51 – 14,630.5 km)
  • Smoke Fairies – London, UK – On 28 May, the Smoke Fairies will perform music from their newly released (21 May) album BLOOD SPEAKS at The Tabernacle. (Distance from Pixel 51 – 6,784 km)

    • Kasey Chambers

  • Jan Hellriegel – Rotorua, New Zealand. On 19 May, no new album release, but Hellriegel will be live at THE PHEASANT PLUCKER. (Distance from Pixel 51 – 12,513 km)

Fiona's new album THE IDLER WHEEL, etc

Fiona Apple‘s second album, released in 1999, set a record for length of title. Here is it’s complete title:

When the pawn hits the conflicts he thinks like a king

I’m definitely buying that album.

The glowing ‘I Thought I Was An Alien’ Soko t-shirts have been on sale for a while to those lucky enough to attend one of her shows. Now they can be purchased at the Official Soko Website. The UFO shirt is £15, and the ALIEN glow-in-the-dark shirt is £18. Shipping to the US is £5.90.

Her next show is on 31 March at Bi NUU in Berlin.
